2012 SHORT ARCHITECTURE FILM COMPETITION
AN EXPERIENCE OF EXPERIENCE
FILMING, INTERPERATING AND TREASURING EXPERIENCE
In a Conference Competition we invite SONA and EMAGN members to submit 30 second films describing the experience, the sensation of spending time in a particularly, moving, beautiful or uplifting architectural space.
We ask the participants to address the following questions: what is the real, sensed experience of the architectural space that you are exploring with your film?
Juhani Pallasmaa in his book “The Architecture of Image: Existential Space in Cinema” examines how various filmmakers used architectural imagery to create emotional states in their movies, how will you use the moving image to convey the sensual experience of the architectural space you’re exploring?
- The films are to be an exploration of the experience of architectural space.
The film must be a continuous shot of 30 seconds maximum (ie no editing).
- o Handheld cameras to be used
o dital cameras eg: telephone cameras
o no introduced props
o no sound
o no post production vision
o no technical effects
o no titles or credits (on the film its self)
o it would be ideal if you explored one of the spaces designed by an international or national speaker at this year’s conference, alternatively explore a space you find moving, beautiful or uplifting near to you.
o You must provide a 100 word exploration with your film
o the films and word component are to be upload to vimeo by 21 April 2012
o the films are Quick & dirty
ONE: The Conference Venue
The winning films will be shown in the conference venue as a preamble to each speaker.
TWO: Fringe Event: Video competition discussion at SLQ Edge (need to confirm how this event will run)
Interactive: present clips + Live Tweet feeds as projects presented on Screen. (The films to be to be discussed could be selected via tweet?)
Academic discussion: Discussion of media images of architecture, media as marketing. (Or discuss the films?)
THREE: 2012 Conference Website
The films, with their titles and credits, & 100 word explorations will be posted on the conference website. IE
